Volunteer Job Descriptions
Scoring Table (Scorer/Recorder) - Responsible for recording swimmers times, determining order of finish and tallying team points.
Officials (Starter/Referee, Stroke/Turn, Across Board) - Training and Certification required.
Timers - Responsible for operating the stopwatch to record a swimmer’s time on the timer sheet. 2 Timers are needed per lane - one from Glen Ridge and one from our competitor. Timers are required to attend the timers meeting prior to the start of the meet to check in and receive clipboards, stopwatches, and pencils from the Head Timer.
Backup Timer - Backup Timers are required to attend the timers meeting. They will start their watches with each heat and will be available to step into a timer's spot for that heat if that timer’s watch malfunctions or misses the start.
Runner - Runners collect the time sheets from each timer after every event and take them to the scoring table. They also collect “order of finish” and DQ sheets from officials around the pool and deliver to scoring table.
Ribbons - Responsible for writing out the ribbons at home meets.
Labels - Give swimmers stickers with their names prior to their events that they provide to their lane timer. (not required at most meets)
Concessions - Set-up table and sell food to swimmers and spectators. Also responsible for setting up and cleaning up the concession area.
Heat Prize winner - only required at some meets - hand out a rubber duck to the winner from each heat or relay as they exit the pool
