The Glen Ridge Gators swim in the NJSDC league. Here is a description of the league:
The New Jersey Swimming & Diving Conference has had a long 40+ year history of providing a great platform for summer competitive swimming in New Jersey, with over 30 teams in Middlesex, Somerset, Monmouth & Union Counties. The conference is divided into three competitive leagues, with dual meets, league championship meets and a conference championship meet. The age of the swimmer as of June 30th will determine his/her age for league participation. Swimmers aged up to 18 are eligible. Visit the NJSDC website for more information.
New swimmers: In order to participate in a swim meet for Glen Ridge Swim Team, the swimmer must pass a swim test consisting of swimming 2 lengths of the pool and treading water for 1 minute. If they have not yet passed the test, the swimmer can still come to practices with the goal to eventually pass the test. If concerned, please speak to the coaches for more information.
During practice, swimmers will learn and practice each of the four strokes: Freestyle, Breaststroke, Backstroke, Butterfly. While it is not a requirement to perfectly swim each of these strokes to be on the team, coaches will only put a swimmer in an event if they can attempt the stroke. When swimming the stroke for the first few times, a swimmer may "DQ". This happens when the official (the people in white on the side of the pool) determines that the stroke isn't being performed correctly. This is normal and often happens a lot during the swimmer's first year.
